After you've learned and played some three-chord songs, where do you go from here? Are you stuck at this level and cannot progress any further? Do you have a desire to learn more and to further your music education for your own enrichment?
At UKULELE MOVEMENT, we are in a unique position to offer you options when it comes to learning this wonderful instrument. There are basically two different methods of learning - Self-instruction and Guided-instruction.
Self-instruction: We stock many titles of ukulele instructional DVDs and books from reputable and famous ukulele gurus like Jim Beloff, John King, Lyle Ritz, Ralph Shaw, and Herb Ohta (Ohta-san). These materials have been carefully selected to provide an enjoyable learning experience at your own pace and time, in the comfort of your own home. All levels of proficiency are catered for, from learning how to teach your children to intermediate/advanced levels of solo-playing.
For busy professionals with precious little time to spare, learning from a DVD is the best option available. There's no need to rush for classes or plan your time around class schedules, just pop in a DVD and learn whenever you get the time.
For retirees or students with a generous amount of time to spare (how lucky!), gather a few friends in your living room, watch and learn together, imagine how much more fun it will be when you start your own little ukulele community. This is exactly what we are trying to promote, a sense of social-interaction and community-building to bring people together, believe me its a lot easier when you have a common interest.
The price of a DVD is roughly equivalent to the price of a one-hour lesson and you get to keep the material forever and play it as often as you like. Imagine the cost savings when you purchase a few DVDs and share the cost between your very own ukulele group!
Guided-instruction: For ukulele and music enthusiasts, we are offering a comprehensive ukulele education program designed by world-class ukulele virtuoso, James Hill and his ukulele teacher, J. Chalmers Doane, Director of Music Education in Halifax School, 1967 to 1985. The Doane ukulele program, with its beginnings in the Halifax elementary public schools, has touched the lives of over 50,000 school children and adults throughout Canada and the United States.
Learning by chords is fine if you know the song and rhythm. But what happens when you find something you like which is not transcribed for the ukulele and you cannot read music notation? Chances are you will not be able to play it.
Music is a universal language and although the initial learning process may be difficult (as with all languages), we are positive that once you've built up your foundation in music, you can practically play any piece of music you can get your hands on!
We are working very closely with James Hill (the co-author and co-creator of the program) to offer this in Singapore soon. Details will be released once confirmed.
A final note from UKULELE MOVEMENT
To provide a complete all-round service to our customers and members, we are embarking on a music education program in addition to our retail and ukulele community-building efforts to share the joys of learning how to play the ukulele.
