Traditionally, Koa and Mahogany have both been used for stringed instruments, and both have their own distinctive sound. They are both excellent tonal woods, but Koa is becoming rare and it is difficult to acquire high grade Koa lumber. The Pono Mahogany Deluxe Series uses a similar wood (to Koa), and it has been prized by luthiers for many centuries–Mahogany. Pono Mahogany ukuleles are very similar to the classic Martin and Gibson Mahogany ukulele. Sweet and mellow, with good volume and projection. All tenor models in this series come with an adjustable truss rod built into the neck. |
