Workshop One: Ukulele For Beginners
Ever noticed that people always look happy when they're playing the ukulele? Find out why in this beginner-level class. Discover the simple joys of this four-stringed wonder in a fun, positive, hands-on setting. In no time you'll be picking, singing, strumming, harmonizing, and playing songs. Ukulele is an inexpensive and rewarding way to bring music into your life at any age!
James Hill workshop
Workshop details (You'll playing and singing within 5 minutes):
• Tuning and posture
• Basic chords and strumming
• Essential scales and picking
• How to play by ear
• How to get the most from your ukulele experience!

Registration: 9:30 am
Part 1: 10:00 am – 10:45 am
Break: 10:45 am – 11:15 am
Part 2: 11:15 am – 12:00 pm


Workshop Two: Swing Ukulele, Swing!
It's swing time in Ukulele Land! East coast, west coast, all around the town, swing is happening. Sweet-sounding swing chords are easy to play and they sound oh-so fabulous. Your ukulele will thank you and your strumming will never be the same again. Regardless of prior experience, James will have you swinging your first tune in five minutes and fly you to the moon from there. Handouts provided.

Workshop details:
• Techniques include: the "jazz lift" strum, left and right-hand dampening techniques, creating jazz chords (it's easier than you think!), jazz chord voicings, and (time permitting) some practical tips for improvisers. It all sounds very technical but it's really very accessible to all levels of player.

Tickets at $45 per person for each workshop, or $80 if you sign up for both workshops.
Ticket prices include refreshments and handouts. Limited to 50 attendees per workshop max. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Note: Video and sound recordings are not permitted during the workshops. For ages 7 and above. You are encouraged to bring along your ukulele as this is a hands-on workshop.

By MRT:  From Raffles Place Station, take exit H and walk across Cavenagh Bridge.  From City Hall Station, take exit B (in front of capitol building), turn left, walk towards Funan Centre and turn left again upon reaching the present Parliament house.

From Clark Quay Station, take exit E, cross the road in front, then turn left, upon reaching the Singapore River, turn right and walk towards the Victoria Memorial Clock Tower.
