An Evening with Kevin Loh at UM LOFT
Kevin Loh started learning the classical guitar from his father when he was five years old. His natural talent with the instrument enabled him to give his first solo guitar performance that same year.
At age nine, he became the youngest principle ensemble player with the TPGC Niborii Guitar Orchestra under the baton of Mr Alex Abisheganaden, a Cultural Medallion Winner and Pioneer of the Singapore Classical Guitar Movement.
Kevin went on to attain his Grade 8 in classical guitar from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) at age eleven.
Now thirteen years old, Kevin is attending the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK. He is the sixth classical guitar student in the school's history and the first from outside of Europe.
Despite his young age, Kevin has already played in numerous master classes for international guitar players such as Andrea Dieci, Fabio Zanon, Flavio Cucchi, Jeremy Jouve, Judicael Perroy, Manuel Barrueco, Oscal Ghiglia, Shinichi Fukuda, Thibault Cauvin and Yang Xuefei. 1
Beyond his musical achievements, Kevin is also passionate about community work and has performed in numerous charity events, the most recent being the CHilAid 2010 concert. He also performed at the Closing Ceremony of the inaugural Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010 at the invitation of Cultural Medallion recipient Mr. Iskandar Ismail. 2
In 2010, Kevin was presented the prestigious HSBC Youth Excellence Award for Musical Excellence making him the first to have received this award for the classical guitar. In Feb 2011, Kevin gave his debut concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall making him the first-ever Singaporean guitarist to do so. A young talent with tremendous energy and potential, Kevin has a bright future as a beacon of youth excellence in music for our community. 3
Kevin took up the ukulele in 2009. Since then, he has used the ukulele at many performances and he has continued to entertain the audience with his dexterity on both the guitar and the ukulele. UKULELE MOVEMENT is very proud to present An Evening with Kevin Loh at UM LOFT.
